The participants’ interactions while touring the Istiqlal Mosque area in Jakarta, as part of the Walk for Peace and Climate Justice agenda organized by Eco Bhinneka Muhammadiyah, the Central Board of Himpunan Difabel Muhammadiyah (HIDIMU), and GreenFaith Indonesia on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

The declaration included four core commitments:

  1. Advancing inclusive ecological transformation through green public spaces, clean energy, and community-based waste management.

  2. Strengthening inclusive leadership in climate action, promoting safe spaces and capacity-building for women and marginalized communities.

  3. Building interfaith solidarity through green houses of worship and environmentally aware faith education.

  4. Protecting vulnerable groups, especially persons with disabilities, by empowering them to respond to climate impacts.

“This declaration is a powerful symbol of collective commitment — making tolerance, social justice, and climate justice the foundations of a shared interfaith movement,” said Hening Parlan.

“Youth, persons with disabilities, and women must stand at the center of change.”

Support for the initiative came from the Ford Foundation, UHAMKA University, RSI Jakarta Cempaka Putih Hospital, and various interfaith community leaders.

Farah Sofa of the Ford Foundation praised the event, saying, “This aligns with our mission to advance social and climate justice. May we continue working together for a peaceful and inclusive Earth.”

The march concluded with an appeal for solidarity and concrete action. “Walk for Peace and Climate Justice is more than a symbol. It is our jubilee — a year of hope — that we must fill with real and united action,” Parlan declared.

Organizers expressed their hope that the movement would spark a stronger sense of ecological responsibility and interfaith cooperation across the nation. “Indonesia’s diversity is its greatest asset,” Hening Parlan affirmed.

“Together, we can care for the Earth as our shared home.”***
